Troubleshooting Computer Won’t Turn On
Introduction:
When your computer won’t turn on, it’s a stressful situation. Here are a few ways to figure out why and get your system running again.
Steps to Troubleshoot:
-
Check Power Supply: Make sure the power cable is plugged in properly and that the power outlet is working.
-
Inspect Power Button: Ensure the power button isn't jammed or damaged. If necessary, try using another method like a keyboard power button.
-
Disconnect External Devices: Sometimes, peripherals can cause power issues. Disconnect all devices except the monitor and keyboard, then try turning on the system.
-
Look for Beeps or Lights: If your computer produces any error beeps or lights, refer to your motherboard’s manual to interpret them.
-
Check Internal Components: Open your computer (if safe to do so) and ensure all components (RAM, graphics card, etc.) are seated properly.
-
Test with Another Power Supply: If you have access to another power supply, swap it to rule out a faulty power source.
